The Department of Science of the Almaty Technological University is a scientific community of young scientists and specialists, uniting initiative groups of students, undergraduates and employees of various departments of the university.

The main goals of the Science Department

planning, organization, coordination and implementation of scientific research work (R&D);
establishment and development of external relations and cooperation with Kazakhstani and foreign partners in the field of science and education;
protection of intellectual property, carrying out regulatory control and metrological support;
information retrieval, regulatory support and assistance in finding sources of funding for fundamental, applied, innovative and other research in the humanities, natural and technical sciences;
intensifying student participation in research;
scientific and organizational support for increasing the level of fundamental, applied research and technical developments of the university scientists;
increasing the volume of scientific research carried out within the framework of the thematic research plan;
intensification of research activities of the structural divisions of the university;
increasing the efficiency of use of intellectual, material, financial, informational and other resources of educational and scientific structural subdivisions of ATU, as well as third-party institutions and organizations.

Activities of the Science Department

organization of a planning and reporting system for budgetary and extra-budgetary research work that is adequate to socio-political, economic, scientific and technical conditions;
coordination of all budgetary and extra-budgetary research work of the university departments within the framework of the main scientific areas;
monitoring of the university’s scientific and educational space;
providing the necessary conditions for the full use and development of the scientific and technical potential of the structural divisions of the ATU and individual employees;
broad cooperation with university services in providing budgetary and extra-budgetary research;
establishing connections with higher educational institutions, scientific institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan and foreign countries in the field of scientific and scientific-production activities;
assistance in the development of international cooperation programs in the field of science and new technologies;
organizing work to develop projects and business plans to attract foreign investors;
organization and holding of international, republican and university scientific conferences, seminars and exhibitions;
patent information and regulatory technical support in the development and creation of new equipment, technologies and materials, innovative scientific research, as well as protection of intellectual property of ATU;
creation of a qualitatively new experimental production base of the university based on modern equipment;
information support for research teams and active promotion of their developments in the market of intellectual services and high technology;
information retrieval, regulatory support and assistance in finding sources of funding for fundamental, applied, innovative and other research in the humanities, natural and technical sciences;
coordination of research work of the university students;
analysis, generalization and dissemination of experience in organizing research and development work by departments and scientific supervisors;
promoting the activation of scientific research and the implementation of the results obtained in the educational process of ATU and production;
inclusion of teams of scientific and scientific-pedagogical schools of the university in intensive research activities in the main scientific areas;
ensuring the participation of leading University specialists in the development of scientific programs ordered and coordinated by ministries and departments of the Republic of Kazakhstan, academies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, enterprises and organizations of the republic, and various foundations.

Department of Scientific Work Organization

The Department for the Organization of Scientific Work is a structural unit of the university, part of the Science Department, which ensures coordination of the scientific work of scientific and pedagogical teams and individual scientists of the university within the framework of the main areas of scientific activity in accordance with the priority areas of science and technology.

The main goals of the department are:

scientific and organizational support for increasing the level of fundamental, applied research and technical developments of the university scientists;
increasing the volume of scientific research carried out within the framework of the thematic research plan;
intensification of research activities of the structural divisions of the university;
increasing the efficiency of using intellectual, material, financial, information and other resources, educational, scientific, innovative, social and other structural divisions of ATU, as well as third-party institutions and organizations.

The activities of the SWOD are aimed at solving the following tasks:

providing the necessary conditions for the full use and development of the scientific and technical potential of the structural divisions of the ATU and individual employees;
organization of a planning and reporting system for budgetary and extra-budgetary research work that is adequate to socio-political, economic, scientific and technical conditions;
coordination of all budgetary and extra-budgetary research work of the university departments within the framework of the main scientific areas;
inclusion of teams of scientific and scientific-pedagogical schools of the university in intensive research activities in the main scientific areas;
monitoring of the university’s scientific and educational space;
practice-oriented activities to increase the responsibility of department heads for conducting extra-budgetary research within the framework of the “second half” of teachers’ individual work plans;
integration of SWOD functions in the general structure of SD functions;
extensive cooperation with university services in providing budgetary and extra-budgetary research.

The Department of Information Support and Patent Research is a structural unit of the university, part of the Department of Science.

The main objectives of the Information Support and Patent Research Department are:

protection of intellectual property, carrying out normative control and metrological support for research work;
establishment and development of external relations and cooperation with Kazakhstani and foreign partners in the field of science and education;
information retrieval, regulatory support and assistance in finding sources of funding for fundamental, applied, innovative and other research in the humanities, natural and technical sciences;
intensifying student participation in research;
identification of the results of intellectual activity of scientists, teachers, and employees of ATU that have the prospect of commercial use, implementation of the results of experimental and innovative activities of ATU in production and the educational process.

The activities of the Information Support and Patent Research Department are aimed at solving the following tasks:

patent information and regulatory technical support in the development and creation of new equipment, technologies and materials, innovative scientific research;
creation of a qualitatively new experimental production base of the university based on modern equipment;
establishing connections with higher educational institutions, scientific institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan and foreign countries in the field of scientific and scientific-production activities;
